Decorating a home whether it's a space, a room or even a corner can get crazy expensive. I mean when you think about it: paint, furniture, accessories, etc, it can all begin to add up quickly.

The good thing is that there are ways to help when you're trying to save money decorating, but by doing this one thing, you'll be sure to be gentle on your purse:

Save Money Decorating With Estate Sales

Save Money Decorating With Estate Sales

Now I know what you might be thinking, because it's how I felt in the beginning, well that's before I gave estate shopping a real try, was that I would only stumble upon grandma looking things, but I was dead wrong.

You can find some really unique pieces or vintage pieces at estate sales. So if you're like me and you're not into following decor trends or say you want to mix up decorating styles, estate sales are the way to go.

For those of you who aren't familiar with estate sales, they are sales that usually take place when a home owner wants to sell their things because they're moving or downsizing and don't want to take them along, they're trying to make some cash due to a financial hardship or a loved one has passed away.

The homeowner usually hires a company who buys the homeowner's things and then holds a public estate sale for people to purchase the items. Whatever doesn't sell, the company then takes to their shop to sell at a later time (more on this in a sec).

If you're as excited as I am about scoring big at estate sales, I put together this FREE cheatsheet just for you to help you save money using estate sales to decorate your room (just scroll to the bottom of this post and enter your 411 below to grab it).

Now that you're schooled on what an estate sale is, let's take it back a bit and let me share with you how I found out about estate sales.

My friend, Jeanette put me on to them and let me tell you that this chick knows how to find deals for hella cheap and good stuff too.  Oh and she's taught me all I know in the one trip that I took with her and now I'm hooked! By the way, check out estatesales.net for sales in your area.

On my first trip, I scored a ton of stuff for only $20 bucks (clothing rack, basket, storage box, wall decor, hangers, bowls, pizza pan and other things that I can't remember as I type this-for those who know me, know how much of a bad memory I have).  I forgot to take pics since I was sooo excited about my finds-sorry!

On my second trip, I really scored!  I've been wanting to get a bookcase for our living room for a minute now, but two things have been getting in the way. One, I didn't want to buy anything cheap from Ikea and two, I didn't want to spend a ton of money.

So I got all happy when Jeanette texted me a pic of a bookcase she just spotted at an estate sale and got my ass out of bed and drove over there in a quickness.

Nonetheless when I got there, let's just say that the bookcase looked way better in the pic, but then the heavens parted when I spotted this beauty, which by the way I scored for $5 and it's real wood!!! Now tell me that wasn't a score! And the original price was $75, so what is that like a 90% discount?  Whatever the number, it was a damn good deal if I don't say so myself! lolI also grabbed a bunch of afrocentric accessories (most items are pictured above) because that's my style, so I lucked out on an african statue, incense burner from Indonesia, marble jewelry box, vase, african candle holders, tea set and an elephant figurine that my kids say looks just like Tinga Tinga! lol All for guess how much?  Drumroll please.......$22 total bucks  Oh yeah! Not bad at all.

Have I convinced you on how estate sales can help you to save money decorating?  If you're still stumped on decorating your place and need help, I'd be glad to give you a hand.  Just check me out here.
